Katar/Raider Hawker Guide
A guide for melee Hawkers
Author: Syphiroth Class: hawker Job: raider Type: general Difficulty: intermediate
Average rating: 7.2/10 Total Votes: 46
There is no "perfect" version of this. This is the version I like to use, and it's served me pretty well.
Introduction: Katar Hawkers will use "katars", which are claws on each hand. While using katars, no shield may be held. (Sword Knuckle, Knuckes, Rake hands, Golden rake hands) Double-weapons are also available. (Longsword and Kukri, etc.)
I think these are the coolest job ^^ These guys have fr'eaking high dodge, decent damage, and some very cool abilities after their second job.
Build:
Dex is your main stat. Pump dex until it gets VERY VERY expensive. Sen increases critical hits, which is very useful for hawkers. Sen should be pumped a little bit too, and finally, get some strength. Remember, sen and strength are secondary to dexterity, since dex boosts the attack power of your weapons and dodge-rate.
Sensibility raises criticals, which are quite useful later....
Strength raises HP, which is nice, because Hawkers have pretty bad hp. Also, 2x strength makes 1 attack, while 1 dex makes 1 attack. Strength isn't quite as useful as dex, and neither is sensibility, which is why I have them at a sen:dex:str ratio of 1:3:1
*Also, I'm not sure on this though, strength comes into play MORE when you deal a critical with a katar hawker (critical damage is something around 50% strength and 50% dex)*
Note! Concentration is USELESS for a katar hawker. You'll see why later in skills.
Equipment:
-Main Armor
For some reason, the hawker suits, until level 50, look rather fruity >>. In any case, the stuff you buy from the store is next to useless. In Zant, shop around for better equips at level 10. If you can't find anything (HIGHLY UNLIKELY), then, and only then, buy the shop equipment.
At level 20-25, FIND a 'holy hunter's chest'! Find one with 30+ defense, 10+ magic defense, and 10+ dodge rate. Preferably this will be stated (have stats that come into play when equipped) with either dex, hp, mp, dodge, accuracy, or something that will come in useful. Which is to say, not strength, concentration, etc.
Also, you might find a cheap/get a drop of one of those blue/tan/etc. cowboy outfits (The name eludes me). These gives 40-70 hp, and are also very useful, although expensive...
Make sure your armor isn't overpriced...
A good deal will most likely be repeated, but Zuly, once spent, won't reappear no matter how much you regret the purchase. ><
-Weapon
This you can usually get from the NPC shops. Be sure to repair when nearly broken. Carry around a few repair hammers for this purpose.
Katars, or dual-weapons are what you need. Note, around level 30, it just MIGHT be useful for you to keep a bow and arrows around...
Note: Hawker weapons are always double-handed, so hand-shields are useless.
If you feel up to a few quests, try finishing the NPC quests for weaponry.
Level 20 quest = Talk to Mina. It's a retrieve this and that quest. Very easy.
He offers you a bow or a claw. Take the katar (+2 attack!).
Level 30 quest = Talk to Carrion. He wants you to kill 10 Aqua Captains in 10 minutes.
1. Kick Carrion in the balls and tell him he's a moron.
2. Go around town and grab a zant scroll.
3. Walk around until 10 minutes is up.
4. Go back to Carrion. Complain until he gives you 15 minutes.
5. Kick him in the balls again.
6. Make sure you know where Lake of Anima is.
7. Go back to Carrion after 15 minutes is up.
8. Finally, he gives you 30 minutes. Head to Lake of Anima, kill the captains, and use the scroll to go back.
He offers you a bow and a claw. Take the rake hand (+3 attack!)
-Back Shield
Wings vs. Shields
Speed vs Defense
Personally, I just saved up for a long time around bought a 7/7 high dodge wings (250k XD). If you don't have the patience though, just get a backshield, and save up for a set of good wings. Don't squander money on crap wings. Wings don't do much speedwise. You'll be noticeably faster, but you won't be The Flash, so keep those Zuly from burning a hole in your pocket.
-Helmet+Shoes+Gloves
I don't think these are too hard. Just get high dodge ones, hopefully stated. These don't cost that much, so I guess there isn't that much risk of experimenting. Remember, useful stats+high dodge=good stuff
You'll probably replace these a lot, so don't go for any high-end 7/7 gloves and stuff.
-Jewelry
Get the avoidance necklace (70k).
Avoidance Necklace=Crucial, get it.
Ring=Don't get the shop ring for accuracy! It's useless. Instead, head to Junonpolis and look for a ring called Deadshot Ring or something. It's silver, glitters, and gives much more accuracy than the ring in Mina's shop.
Earrings=Critical Hit earrings are always useful. Get 'em.
-Masks
I think there are only a few masks available... Heresy, Asura, and a few others. I tink Heresy and Asura masks are the best out of them though. Although it might seem more fitting to get a black/persian mask for the katar hawkers, I simply saved my money and got a 7/7 heresy mask, which was 150k. Frankly, if you're going to waste money on a bad mask, such as one that gives only charm, you're a moron. Charm is next to useless for katar hawkers. If you do get a decent mask, anything above a 4/4, try getting something with useful stats...(Dex, sen, attack power, hp, mp, dodge rate) Again, like the gloves/hats/bots.
-Training

-Taken from Gamefaqs.com
-Skills
Max out your masteries! Theres two. Katar Mastery (NOT BOW MASTERY YOU MORON), and Battle Mastery. Katar Master increases damage, Battlemastery increases attack speed. Hawker spirit, get this as soon as possible, get it to 5, and leave it until you've finished both masteries. Screw attack, bring to either level 1-5. NO MORE UNTIL YOU GET TO LEVEL 70. It's already amazingly expensive by 1. Don't waste stat points on random things such as hearts (shoots a pink heart, sucks), or high kick. Sure, you'll be out of cool-looking combos, but you'll save a lot of money.
By 70, you should have both masteries maxed, Hawker spirit maxed, and Screw attack at 1-5. Why no other attacks? I find that they are slow, and unweildy. Which is to say, they're slow, and they don't do good dmg. Plus, hawkers have CRAP mp. Level 30, you'll have 200 mp, only enough for 5 screw attacks.
Saving stat points until you get to level 70 is a good idea, seeing as a lot of the new raider skills kick ass. You'll have to tune in to my next walkthrough (as soon as I get to 100, which might be in a year or two ~.-) to find the new raider skills.
Miscellaneous
Don't get scammed... be sure you know how much something costs before you buy it. The oppourtunity to buy something will come again, but your zuly won't return after you use them. Watch out for x10 scammers (add a 0 onto the end of their goods ex. 50-500)
You need a resonably high end computer to run rose, I prefer just setting graphics on lowest and performance on highest.
Pets are rather useless.... Too expensive. Use the few that you pick up, though.
Pick up everything you see... Animal-specific drops (tail hair, bones, etc.) sell at NPC for very good zuly.
DODGE BEFORE DEFENSE! Defense is for soldiers, dodge is for hawkers. Repeat! DODGE BEFORE DEFENSE! Repeat!
I guess this is a ONE thru fifty guide, so I should probably post some stuff for the less veteran players out there.
Getting to be a hawker
1. Exit birth island
2. Head to zant. I haven't been in Adventure plains for a LONG time... so I think the general direction is north. You should be levels 9/10 at this time. Yes I know this is very undescriptive. Ask around >>
3. After getting to Zant, talk to Warren, Servant of Acram Kingdom. He's the old guy. He'll ask you to go to another bloke... the name eludes me.
4. The other bloke is located in Luxem Tower, which is an exit out of Zant. He'll be on an island with two bridges leading to the island (of out of the island). Talk to him.
5. He'll want you to hunt mother choropies/spotted choropies/king jellybeans. At this point, if you are level 10, it will be VERY useful to get knuckles from the weapon seller in zant. Head back to adventure plains.
6. Kill the monsters above until you recieve 20 dew crystals (Check in quest menu).
7. Head back to the bloke in Luxem tower, get the earring, head back to Zant, give earring to Warren.
8. I'm not sure, but warren gives u hunter gloves. But he also told me I did a bad job so... You might get more if you do it faster.
-Kiwis are good for hawker healing, at least at newb stages. Meat later.
-Always use milk. Cheap + Hawkers don't have a lot of MP.
-Hotkey ur skills/attritions (drag n drop) on ur f1-f7 tab in the bottom of your screen, very useful.
-Skills from Leonar, the Righteous Knight. He is located in Zant, next to the stairway to the altar in the middle.
-No idea why, but I don't like quests... they aren't recorded and they don't give you crap in my opinion.
-Wings, masks, all decent equipment cannot be bought from NPCs.
